Fiction is a powerful source of both pleasure and moral formation for its readers. The Christian church has had a somewhat uneasy relationship with fiction and literature because it agrees more easily with truths enlivened by history, such as the saving work of Christ’s resurrection. But should Christians really be wary of fiction? The Bible, though on a whole is not in the category of fiction proper, potently employs stories to teach spiritual truths. Furthermore, a lot can be gained by listening and sharing in the imaginative stories of Christians and non-Christians alike.
